BRIEF:
Weave design and technology to design, build and demonstrate electro-mechanical machines that celebrate mechanisms and demonstrate an engaging physical interaction.
OUTCOME:
Gizmoji is an interactive, repeatable, physical emoji. Send it an SMS of a  hand emoji and it will reply with a physical representation of that emoji. This project focused on mechatronics, and physical prototyping. The aim was to create a ‘useless’ machine with an interesting interaction. Gizmoji had its own sim card and phone number that you could text, using a SIM800L component to do so. If a text was received, string manipulation would extract that specific hand emoji code, and would cause a sequence of 5 servo motors to turn, corresponding to the finger movements of that sign. The project included skills such as CAD modelling, 3DP, laser cutting, silicone moulding, electronics and coding in C++.
